ADHD Awareness Month

A month dedicated to raising awareness of ADHD — the most common co-occurring condition in autism. Roughly 50-70% of autistic people also have ADHD, making it essential to understand both conditions together.

History

ADHD Awareness Month has been observed in October in the US since the early 2000s. CHADD (Children and Adults with ADHD) leads many national awareness efforts alongside the ADHD Awareness Coalition.

How to Participate

  • Learn about how ADHD and autism interact and present differently together than separately
  • Understand that autism masking and ADHD inattention can look similar on the surface
  • Advocate for dual assessments when evaluating either condition
  • Support access to ADHD treatment options for autistic people
  • Follow autistic ADHD (AuDHD) advocates who share firsthand experience
