Assistive Technology Awareness Month
A month promoting awareness of assistive technology — tools that help people with disabilities live, learn, and work more independently. For autistic people, AT includes AAC devices, visual schedules, sensory tools, and organizational apps.
History
Assistive Technology Awareness Month has been promoted by ATIA (Assistive Technology Industry Association) and similar organizations. The Assistive Technology Act of 1998 established federal support for AT programs in every US state.
How to Participate
- →Learn about AT options for autistic children and adults beyond AAC
- →Explore apps and tools designed for executive function support
- →Advocate for AT assessments in IEPs — every student has the right to an AT evaluation
- →Connect with your state's AT program for demonstration and loan programs
- →Learn about low-tech AT options that are often overlooked
