Disability History Month

A month dedicated to learning about disability history — the history of institutionalization, the disability rights movement, and the ongoing fight for inclusion and dignity. Understanding history is essential to building a more just future.

History

Disability History Month began in the UK in 2012. In the US, disability history awareness has been promoted by disability rights organizations and academic programs. The history of disability is a history of advocacy, resistance, and hard-won rights.
