National Disability Employment Awareness Month

A US observance recognizing the contributions of workers with disabilities and the importance of inclusive employment. Autistic adults face significant employment barriers, unemployment rates among autistic adults remain disproportionately high.

History

Congress established NDEAM in 1945, originally as National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. It was expanded to a full month in 1988. The US Department of Labor coordinates NDEAM activities.
